ABOUT DIVA > WHO WE ARE
Kim WatsonPublisher
Kim Watson Kim has been working at Diva since its launch in 1994, starting on advertising sales, marketing and distribution. Kim is now deputy managing director of MPG and publisher of Diva and, in her spare time, also distributes lesbian and gay films in the UK for Millivres Multimedia and acts as a business consultant for Still Waters Run Deep a design and branding company.
Her first job in publishing was in 1986 as an editor's assistant for Pins and Needles magazine. She left to join The Times’ and Sunday Times’ ad department. Next stop was a three-and-a-half-year stint as advertising manager and then commercial director at the Pink Paper. She joined Millivres in 1994 to work on Gay Times and Diva, and set up the company's marketing department.
A postgraduate in Marketing, she’s also a keen guitarist, footballer and skateboarder. Kim’s also written short stories, features and reviews for Diva and the Pink Paper. Kim and her partner have a young daughter.
Jane CzyzselskaEditor
Jane Czyzselska Jane has written for Diva since 1994, and joined as its editor on April Fool’s Day 2004. An auspicious day for her (it’s her mum’s birthday), she waved her freelance career as a journalist for The Times, the Independent and Horse & Hound goodbye. She loves: dancing, the smell of wet pinewood, Japanese tattoos, Mies Van der Rohe and Britt Ekland in The Wicker Man. She hates: not being able to speak Spanish.
Louise CarolinDeputy Editor
Louise Carolin Louise has written for Diva since 1994, and joined the staff fin 2001. In the 1980s, she was a member of the collectives which produced the cult lesbian and gay magazines Shocking Pink and Square Peg. During a career best described as ‘chequered’, she’s also worked at the Lewisham Pizza Hut, Camberwell Music Library and Brixton Town Centre Management. She loves: pug dogs, 60s’ soul, the London Eye, red lipstick and her period. She hates: text speak and inconsiderate yobs who cycle on pavements.
Maggie TraversAdvertising and Customer Care
Maggie Travers Maggie was a call-centre supervisor for Granada TV with a team of 30 before moving to Millivres Prowler Group in 1999. As Advertising Manager of Diva, she’s seen income and pagination grow to its highest-ever level. She is also deputy group advertising manager for all MPG titles, and leads the customer care element of the business. Affectionately known as ‘The Magga’, you may have seen her on the lesbian scene, and if you haven't, chances are you soon will.
Antonello SticcaSenior Designer
Antonello Sticca Antonello was born in Italy. After studying, living and loving in Rome, he moved to London (trying out Paris, New York and Texas along the way, but the UK called). In Italy, he created two magazines from scratch, designing/ writing and picture editing them. As a boy, his inspiration had been Cioé, a magazine for teenage girls. He was fascinated by celebrity gossip, especially anything about Madonna (gay cliché alert!), George Michael, Duran Duran and Bros (anybody remember them?), and he dreamed of working for the magazine – which came true.
He joined MPG, working on Gay Times and after becoming Diva’s sole designer (so you know who to complain to!)
In Diva, he found the best team around, and he’s designed the website’s great new look. He loves cooking and dressing smart. He hates bad design and rude people.
Bryony WeaverSub-editor
Bryony Weaver Bryony has written occasionally for Diva since 2001. She worked as editor for the Sport, Sci-Fi and Books sections of gay website Rainbow Network from 1999 to 2001. She's written short stories for the Necrologue and Va-Va-Voom anthologies, and had articles in Myslexia, Gay Times, Zipper XXX and Saga Magazine – diversification is everything. She loves: moules mariniers, any kind of music, playing the bodhrán, salsa, cross-dressing women in opera, Captain Katherine Janeway, her garden and her girlf. She hates: faux-celebs and 'personal' portable CD/ MP3 players – TURN THE BLOODY THING DOWN!
Ms Raj RaiHead of Marketing
Ms Raj Rai Raj began her career as Personal Assistant to Senior Directors at Viking Johnson (leaders in pipe joints and repair products), later moving to Hampshire to work for a company specialising in artificial intelligence. She joined MPG in 2000 as Marketing Assistant, and has progressed to Head of Marketing. Raj is responsible for the day-to-day management of marketing DIVA, Pink Paper, Gay Times, AXM, Millivres Multimedia (MMM), Libertas, Puffta, MPG, Prowler Stores, and also runs the MMM business area. Raj has recently been awarded the Professional Diploma in Marketing by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
It’s no secret but Raj has a phobia of animals: dogs, cats, flies, pigeons etc, all of which seem to be drawn to her. Whilst out on a lunch break in a very busy Camden she was hit by a pigeon – no more lunches out for Raj!
